Alright I'm probably gonna get a lot of controversy but here is some of my hot takes - Sonic Advance 2 definitely has to be my least favorite out of the Sonic Advance games, with the other 2 giving me mixed opinions.
- (Probably a normal take now but...) Sonic the Hedgehog 2006 was overhated, although it has a ton of flaws it is not one of the worst sonic games to play, and not the worst game by a lot.
- Sonic Spinball is definitely overrated, it's a buggy mess which has an absolutely ear-piercing soundtrack and the only reason why people like it is because of nostalgia, or because it was in the golden age of Classic Sonic Games.
- Sonic Forces was okay/good, Although it was a good as people expected, and of course, it wasn't worth the price for me (I spent $40 on the PS4 version when it released, and then I bought it again on Switch) but because of how much it goes on sale from it's already lowered price, I think the game is worth it now. It's three hours long excluding the free DLC but it was personally a fun time for me and although it was easier compared to a ton of other sonic games, it's still is very unique and compelling to me.
- Sonic Origins isn't that bad of a collection, I understand that it is few games and that it's pretty much limited, but when people say that you could easily replace it with fan projects, it kind of enrages me. This collection will always be unique for its mission mode, its library, and definitely for its mirror mode and library. I personally do agree that SEGA rushed this too hard and should have added more to make it more worthwhile, but it's a good experience for people which want to play Sonic in widescreen on console.
- The Sonic Movies are not a soulless cash grab, although it was supposed to pander towards audiences which are children or families, I personally have to say that this was an amazing collection of films which definitely didn't deserve to be critiqued online for being so "empty." I can definitely, and if you don't like the idea of a live action comedy film with a realistic cartoon character, (Gee thanks Garfield and Alvin and the Chipmunks!!!!) that's fine, are paramount easily could have canceled this film because of how much money they spent on it, especially when they hired a huge fan of the Sonic franchise (Tyson Hesse) to redesign the character and basically had to rebuild sonic from the ground up which caused the shutdown of a company. I would also like that, even though it doesn't show of your face every single second with the reference, I personally think that we've been looking in too far over this mainly because we'll probably have more information of Sonic compared to SEGA. These films are probably right for a normal sonic fan which partially knows some information about this stuff. Hell I need that even for hard-core fans that it's still a decent viewing experience, especially with Jim Carrey and Lee Majdoub as Dr. Robotnik and Agent Stone.
- Sonic and the Black Knight is it a game and it's only been dragged down because it's a storybook game on the Wii, it's pretty easy to pick up and play and is perfect for short playing segments, there's also a ton of replay value with a ton of it and I cannot forget to mention this, but I really love the missions of this game.
- Sonic Mania is in the middle, I although I do like this game, there is a ton consistencies and errors with the game itself with not really any replayability value compared to some of the other games in the franchise. This is a huge problem getting more apparent with more classic Sonic games, especially with it, focuses on this one aspect of "you only two endings per character." The thing is though is that they've been modded and hacked to unbelievable masterpieces, why mean he is the one becoming more visible with flaws though is because we've had 30 years to critique these games in the past, while Mania is only 5 years old. Also, I believe that it's because of the constant reuse of old stages in which makes this feel way more boring, even if it has a unique twist.
- Sonic Boom was one of the most overlooked things about the Sonic franchise, I obviously how this happened was because of rise of lyric, which failed tremendously, but I would personally say that the TV series and the leader gets on the 3DS such as fire and ice are refreshing and unique to the Sonic franchise.
- Sonic Blast and Sonic 3D Blast, although not the greatest Sonic game, are still enjoyable classics and are hated just because they play differently compared to the rest of the games. They're unique and fun refreshers!
There you go lol

-Frontiers starts off very strong but starts to fall flat after the second island. -The slippery and unresponsive controls on the Heroes special stages ruins the rest of the game for me. Final boss shouldn't have been locked behind such jank. -PS2 version of Unleashed is underrated and actually holds up pretty well, albeit the HD version is better.

Yeah, I'm totally with you here. My issue with Advance 2 is that this game incentivizes you to simply hold the right button to win, occasionally doing stunts if you want. This is the sort of gameplay that some people like, and I'm not here to piss on the soup of people who like this kind of gameplay for a Sonic game. But then you arrive at Sky Mill Zone, also known as the zone that punishes you with bottomless pits for playing the way you were stimulated to play.
Oh yeah, and there's also the boss of the zone. A super complicated boss complete with an instant death attack for the zone where the players will lose their stock of lives until the cows come home.
I think this game is full of dumb design all around. The way you get to the special stages in Advance 2 is so absurd that I deadass don't have bad enough words to insult it. The way you unlock Amy in this game is even worse because it ties to the special stages.
Advance 1 is an okay game. I don't have much against it, but I completely understand people who say this game is bland. I really should play the Advance series again, it's been years since I've played any of them for an extended amount of time. - Sonic Spinball is definitely overrated, it's a buggy mess which has an absolutely ear-piercing soundtrack and the only reason why people like it is because of nostalgia, or because it was in the golden age of Classic Sonic Games.
what I don't see Spinball as overrated, some people seem to even forget the thing even exists. I legit have never seen anybody who straight-up likes Spinball, lol. And come on, the soundtrack isn't that bad. The options screen is whatever, everybody has already got a laugh out of it. You can't tell me the music for Toxic Caves isn't fun and the music in Lava Powerhouse isn't absolutely fire. heh

Here's my mainstream views:
1. Paraphrasing from something that I said on the SMBX forums, removing limited lives fundamentally breaks Classic Sonic by removing all stakes and rendering score completely redundant
2. Frontiers has far too many references. They should do a mandate that's basically "no deep cut references" and force Ian to deal with it. 3. Sonic Prime and the IDW comics shouldn't be canon. I wouldn't mind seeing the characters from the latter appearing in the games however as long as their stories are written from the ground up.
4. Lost World isn't actually a decent Sonic game, but I wouldn't call it great by any means 5. I'd rather use emulation than play the RSDK versions of Sonic 1 and 2 6. The Elise kiss wasn't that bad
7. Actually, Sonic is perfectly playable at 50Hz
8. Team Rose's campaign is the best one in Sonic Heroes
9. Frontiers should've had more, smaller islands with a greater variety of themes
10. Blue Spheres is still the best special stage
11. Pontaff wasn't that bad. I'm not going to pretend that the writing during that era was better than before though.
12. Even without the classic Sonic trilogy, the Mega Drive collection on Steam is still worth it
13. Advance 2 is the worst of the Advance trilogy
14. Sonic 4 Episode 2 isn't good. It's just passable.
15. More fan games need to be open source (preferably with a reciprocal license to prevent them from becoming proprietary again) so that people can pick them up and maintain them if they get discontinued
16. Adventure 2's story isn't that good 17. Adventure 1 is still the best implementation of 3D Sonic 18. 2D Sonic is best played using a keyboard. A controller just doesn't cut it.
19. Shadow is just a worse version of Knuckles 20. Sonic CD is better than Sonic 2 21. No Save Mode is the best way to do repeat playthroughs of the classic games 22. If you're going to bring back old characters (such as the SatAM cast for example), completely ignore the source material and rebuild them from the ground up as one-off side characters
23. It's pronounced "hydrossity" 24. If it had enough time in development, '06 would've been completely forgotten when the next Sonic game released
25. For those wanting to get into the games, Generations is the best place to start with 26. Frontiers got old fast. I was starting to have enough by Chaos Island and I ended up giving up near the end of Ouranos Island; wherein I just cashed in all the Big fishing coins to see the ending. I'm probably not going to replay that game any time soon. 27. Let's face it, the Sonic games will never get enough time in development.

There you go lol Jack what are you talking about Sonic Blast has the exact same structure as every other 8-Bit Sonic game People heavily criticize Sonic Blast for many of its choices in boss and level design usually because of how the screen is zoomed in. Usually this is YouTubers which give this opinion that it’s bad (just search up Sonic Blast and scroll down to any review really) and recommends you not to play it. But I specifically mean Sonic Blast’s unique art style and differing gameplay to allow you to play as Knuckles, and in addition to that it gives you some unique zone locations. That’s why I said they’re enjoyable.

Don’t get me wrong they can be good songs, but they’re just not for me. As in “overrated”, usually I feel like people compare sonic spinball to a hidden gem of sonic gaming and although, it’s perfectly understandable, if you want to look at it that way, I personally just don’t think that it deserves that title if that makes sense? As a person which has played sonic spinball on an actual SEGA Genesis, it just felt really clunky and buggy to play.

Don’t get me wrong they can be good songs, but they’re just not for me. I mean when the series consistently has good soundtracks, every new "good" theme turns into "generic Sonic theme #25924" Although every once in a while we get some soundtracks that stand out as the better ones (looking at you, Frontiers.)

23. It's pronounced "hydrossity"
Well according to Sonic Origins, it is in fact pronounced Hydro City.

Sonic '06 had good gameplay, the Super Peelout is the worst Sonic ability and the Rush games (Colours DS and Generations 3DS are included in this) are the best Boost formula games in the entire series (but it's a tough choice between them and the Gens Console version tho)
