Yeah so Origins is getting DLC. For $9.99 USD (rougly £8.11) you get: - the 12 Game Gear games - Knuckles in CD (yes, you have to pay extra for that; hopefully I'm misinterpresting and it'll be available for free) - Amy in every game
- Anything that came with the Digital Deluxe Edition
I'm still feel burned about preordering the Digital Deluxe Edition, and now I'm even more burned because that's £4 I'm never going to see again. Grumble grumble. I will say that a playable Amy seems interesting however.
There doesn't seem to be an option to re-enable lives in the widescreen mode and I also couldn't see anything regarding removing the toothpaste bilinear filter. I'd probably feel better about Origins if I could have limited lives and remove that Arceusforsaken screen filter without having to use mods.
There's also going to be a physical release of the console versions with a reversible cover and an artbook.
In other news, the first major content patch for Frontiers has also been released today.

Tbh im dissapointed.
I wanted the master system version of the game gear games. And amy's sprites look.. weird.
+ Why did we get the game gear version of mean Bean machine? The genesis version IS much better.

It looks fine, Amy finally being playable is cool and it's kinda neat seeing all of the 8-Bit games, but it's not really enough to make me want to go buy Origins
however sonic blast is now coming back and i hate sonic blast so 0/10 garbage dlc

Knuckles in CD WILL be Plus only, but it will feature alternate routes made just for Knuckles (taken from the JP website)   |

Granted, there's no extra pathways built around the echidna's gliding and climbing abilities, but the character itself is there. Besides, Sonic 1 and 2 (2013), which DID have Knuckles playable, didn't have extra pathways for him either. |

Came back here just to say:
1- The gamegear games sound chip is fucing awful (and that they didn't even improve anything other than a shitty save system)
2- Amy it's just a Sonic clone and her moveset is bullshit (only good is that she has new sprites rtaher than the shitty SCD ones)
3- The surprise is just A FUCKING DRAWING with some shitty task.

The actual issue with the SN76489A (Game Gear sound chip) emulation is that they've tried to force a monoaural sound chip to be stereo. If it's forced into mono, it sounds fine. In other words, they applied the toothpaste filter to the audio as well (likely due to the belief that "da kids" won't be able to fathom anything that sounds "pixelated"). No idea how that would be possible, but, well, Sonic Team are always going to be Sonic Team. The basegame was disapointing enough that I was already going to pass on the DLC and, and they've made me feel even more justified in my decision. I can already play the 8bit games by ripping the ROMs from Sonic Adventure DX using a superior emulator, and if Amy is just a reskin of Sonic then I'll just stick to Advance.
I'd bet that their Game Gear emulation isn't even accurate. Someone needs to inject a test ROM to see how badly they screwed up.

Just to clarify, Sonic Origins is dead on arrival when compared to S3:AIR, S1:Forever, SCD:R, and S2:A; there's no contest considering SEGA's track records with ports like SADX and SA2B. The same applies to Plus; Sonic CD and Knuckles is a superior version of the experience and nothing SEGA can do will match up to Extra slot Amy. Plus, Better SADX have the GG titles built in waiting to be unlocked through missions. This Collection is not for this community, at all and I could wait until all four of yah team together for a Mega community collection that outright replaced origins the same way Better SADX replaced the Steam Port.
With that out of the way, The add-on is fine for what it is. Amy, despite being a reworked Sonic, is a decent character to play as, and I find her Hyper Hammer throw to be hilarious in boss fights (Something I would wish was incorporated into Extra Slot Amy, but have said hammers home in onto the enemies as well). The Knuckles experience in CD was also fine, though I find the extra pathways to be unnecessary. Don't care about the Game Gear titles (not worth the extra $5), and I suspect SEGA expect the pc community to patch it up with their mods (though some of them have to be updated thanks to Amy's inclusion to the game's codes).
Anyways, this is a good collection for current gen consoles; but an inferior version of what you guys have here. You Hack and Modding communities can deliver the definitive version of the games without deadlines pressuring you to turn in out on a hedgehog's birthday. Though I would wish that the same amount of care were to be implemented in this product, I'm not holding my breath and neither should you. Here's to the Retro Engine Modding Community to replace that Amy with the supreme Extra Slot version, but keep and enhance the Hyper Hammer Toss.
I give this collection, Yet another inferior console port of classic games already improved by the PC master race/10.
