Mod presentation
This music pack replaces all the music from Sonic 3 A.I.R. mostly with the complete General MIDI soundtrack from the Sonic & Knuckles Collection game. Almost all of this mod uses the work done by researching and recording the GMs on an authentic Roland Sound Canvas SC-88Pro hardware. So first of all, a HUGE thank you to Cryptovolans, Chimeratio, Infomaniac95 and Valley Bell, who, thanks to all their work, allow us to (re)discover the legendary soundtrack of Sonic 3 & Knuckles, as we never heard it before! ( original video here) Also, you'll notice that Sonic & Knuckles Collection doesn't use any music supposedly composed by Michael Jackson's team, but rather music based on a Sonic 3 prototype. That's why I remixed the said tracks as a bonus, as if they sounded on Sonic & Knuckles Collection! Changelog1.4.0 (2023-04-05)- Added my remixes of the Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 Boss tracks, and the Sonic 2 Super Theme!
- Some remixes of MJ's tracks have been reworked a bit and their volume slightly lowered
- The URL of this thread has been added in the mod info
To do- Reduce the size of some tracks to make the mod less heavy
Remix the Sonic 1 and Sonic 2 tracks present in Sonic 3 A.I.R. (the Boss themes and the Super Sonic theme)- Remix the Sub-Boss theme from Sonic 3
Credits- Cryptovolans and Chimeratio for recordings
- Valley Bell for the MIDI rips from Sonic & Knuckles Collection
- Infomaniac95 for researchs, edits, tags and distributing the recorded soundtrack
- Mastered Realm for researching other works of USP to come to the SC-88Pro conclusion and help with the tags
- SombrAbsol (me) for the remixes of Michael Jackson's team tracks and the mod
And of course, SEGA, to whom we owe first of all Sonic 3. FAQWill the Gamebana page for this mod continue to be updated? No. Now that the Sonic 3 A.I.R. forums are available and for security reasons, the equivalent page on Gamebanana will no longer be maintained. Why doesn't the Sub-Boss theme from Sonic 3 have a remix? The Sub-Boss theme from Sonic 3 is much more complicated than expected, partly because the percussion and PCM effects are a real pain to remix. I don't have the motivation to remix it, but who knows? maybe it will be there one day. I don't really like your remixesβ¦If you tell me politely, explaining why you don't like them and giving me advice, I will do my best to take your opinion into account. DownloadActual version: 1.4.0

Nope, sorry. The original project only took care of the General MIDI OST.

When I was a kid I remember having the midi option selected so thisβs bringing heavy nostalgia despite playing the S&K Collection on WinXP

i always love it when a version of angel island (like a remix or mania adventures) always gives it that jungle music aesthetic. it really fits the zone.

Hey, I have some critiques of your remixes that hopefully are polite and helpful. 1. I would recommend rendering your remixes with the soundfont found here: musical-artifacts.com/artifacts/2525While it is quite large for a soundfont (and not entirely accurate), it is meant to emulate the Roland SC-88Pro which is the hardware the rest of the tracks in this mod were recorded with. This would make your tracks sound slightly more consistent with the others so they don't stick out quite as much. 2. I might also recommend removing the audio samples since those are not possible in standard MIDI files, but this is likely something you already debated on whether or not to do in the first place, so I understand if removing them doesn't suit your vision.

Sorry for the late reply and thank you for the feedback.
1. Well, this is exactly what I was looking for when I started this mod, but as I couldn't find anything, I had to settle for GeneralUser GS. I'll look into it as soon as I have time, and I'm very grateful, as it may well be part of the mod's v2 update. 2. The problem with these samples is that they're at the heart of many Michael Jackson tracks, especially for Carnival Night and Launch Base. Without these samples, these tracks don't have the same flavor and seem emptier, if you know what I mean. The best I can do is reuse the original samples, rather than the Genesis samples (i.e. as they sound in Sonic 3) or "recreated" in MIDI. But maybe I can make a sample-free version of the mod, if some people prefer it.
Again, thanks for your feedback

Hey, I'd just like to announce that v2.0 of the mod is currently underway!
Specifically, the major changes that are bound to be updated are : - New remixes of the MJ team and Sonic 1/2 tracks with an SC88-Pro soundfont (thanks to Static for sharing it with me!) - An even lighter mod weight (presumably) - Global readjustment of track quality; I'd done a bit of a mess with the conversion parameters, with the result that many tracks currently play at far too high a quality. What's more, I recently discovered aoTuV, an Ogg Vorbis encoder based on the official one, which has an excellent quality-to-weight ratio! - Correction of a bug that caused a "slight" lag between a regular zone track and its accelerated version - Better loops for each track It'll be out when it's ready! In the meantime, if you have any ideas or suggestions, let me know while you still can!
